Section 1: What is up with all this drama?

As you should already know by now, Version 3 of the Magic the Gathering Online client is now defunct. Gone are the 1990’s style graphics and static proportional window resizing. We must now welcome the newest client, Version 4! This newer version is replete with the latest in 2004 technology. The line art, the clunky interface, it all harkens back to the days of Windows 2000 and Pentium 2s. Such fond memories. Oh, but seriously, do not try to run version 4 on a PII. It will not work.

Before we move on, I created a video tribute to the passing of our dear friend.

Such sadness. That is what I feel, in my heart.

Anyway, moving on! Bava has done a spiffy up-do on the Version 4 client.

Give the man a hand! Well done, sir. I hope you, dear reader, can take these tools and use them for the betterment of mankind. Maybe we should start with a PRE and work on the social reform later.

Section 2: This week in review

Hold on to your hats folks. Even if you are not wearing them, go find a hat and hold on to it. We have two PRE events to cover in a single week!

SPDC is back and it is now held on Sunday. This updated event is being run under the watchful eye of Dr. Chris Baker himself. The guardian of Dimir Mill is hosting the event.

Ok, I want to stop here for a second and thank the 3 people who participated. I also want to stop and get on a soap box. If we expect, as a community, for more events to fire, we must support them with participation. I realize this was the first one and no one is used to the schedule. However, if you want to compete for fun and maybe even prizes, this is a great way to get involved. Heck, I may even feature you on this site if your deck does well! Anyway, stepping down off my box.

Section 3: The winning decks!

Ok, I lied, there is only one deck that won both! I promise that, in the future, I will bring deck lists of both winning decks.

I have made my made my feelings on mill well known. It is like a scab I pick at. I know the wound will seep, but I cannot help but pick at it. Dimir mill, why can’t I quit you?

Let’s look at a sample opening hand:

I knew Countermand would come up sooner or later. You sickos just couldn’t keep away from it.

I am keeping this hand. I want three mana, but I feel this is about as good as we can hope for. I imagine if I pitched this hand. Drew a similar hand with 2 lands, I would keep that hand. So why pitch this one?

Now let’s look at the next six cards:

We seem to have run into something of a flood. The up side of that is the fact that we will be able to cast everything in our opening hand along with what ever spell we eventually draw.

Section 4: M15 and Me (maybe a little bit you too)

Lets take a look at this card:

Baby Frost Titan! I want to put him in the Blue Flyers deck.

Creatures (20)
Welkin Tern
Cloaked Siren
Nephalia Seakite
Frostburn Weird
Nimbus Naiad
Cloudfin Raptor

Spells (20)
Hubris
Divination
Mizzium Skin
Negate
Divination
Vaporkin
Nullify

Land (20)
20 Island
Sideboard (15)
Griptide
Pin to the Earth
Mizzium Skin
Hands of Binding
Negate
Griptide
Razortip Whip
Hubris
Dispel

The question is where? Where do I stick this guy. I feel that until rotation, I want to leave in Frostburn Weird.

I almost want to replace Cloudfin Raptor with the Lynx. My reasoning is that the Raptor has potential to be good. Where as the Lynx is already good. Even without a proper target for the torpor effect, the kitty can beat down as a 2/2. The problem is curve. The Lynx is 3CMC. Is getting rid of our only 1 drop may make the deck just too slow to come back from any substantial beat down.

What do you think?
