Section 1: This week in Standard Pauper

Despite the failing grade I get on my Lore check (rolled a 1 it seems), Sam and I met up to discuss the newly previewed cards from Khans of Tarkir.

To sum up, I love Jeskai and Sam hates Delve. We shall see how opinions change over the course of this spoiler season.

There is an amazing amount of 1-of lands in this deck. I wonder if Khans is going to move away from ETB effects and more toward situational effects.

We have seen Raid, which causes some sort of ETB if you have attacked. Also, there is Prowess, which gives you an effect for casting spells. The seem to be event triggered effects and not as much a board state effect.

Something must occur, not just be present for the effect to take place.

Interesting times we live in here in Magic land.

Let’s look at a sample opening hand:

My question to you, good internet people, is “Can you throw a hand like this away in a crazy multi-colored deck?”

If this were a mulligan with only one Guildgate, lets say. I would think there would be no choice but to keep it. I am going to keep this hand and pray for no flooding.

Now let’s look at the next six cards:

Sunspire off the top! I do not know how you all do it, week in and week out. I guess you are just that good.

Section 2: Budget EDH Time

I found a very intriguing Commander deck from GatheringMagic.com that I had to try.

After I got all the cards I did not already have, I spent no more than $30. Which is the retail price of one of the WotC Commander 2013 decks. I think mine is more interesting and geared toward my play style.

What do you all think?
